This division provides professional guidance on research design, ethical fieldwork and the transparent analysis and presentation of findings.
We guide researchers in defining research problems, aligning objectives and questions, reviewing literature and developing conceptual frameworks and methodologies. We give constructive feedback on author-prepared drafts. Students develop and revise their own proposals in consultation with their supervisors.
We guide the development and piloting of questionnaires, interview guides, observation checklists and focus group guides aligned with study objectives. Training covers suitable reliability and validity assessments, including Cronbach’s alpha where applicable. Researchers remain responsible for instrument choices and any required institutional approval.
We guide the selection of sampling strategies and suitable sample size calculations, including power analysis where appropriate. Researchers learn to explain the assumptions, limitations and methodological justification for their decisions.
We guide researchers in planning fieldwork, obtaining required approvals, applying informed consent procedures and checking data quality. For commissioned institutional research, we may undertake agreed data collection under the approved protocol. For assessed student research, any field assistance must be permitted by the institution, disclosed where required and must not replace activities the student is required to undertake personally.
We provide trained research assistants for authorised fieldwork, data entry and the organisation of research records. For student projects, assistance is limited to activities permitted by institutional rules and ethical approvals, with clear responsibilities and appropriate acknowledgement.
We transcribe interview and focus group recordings and translate them between Kiswahili and English, keeping the meaning of participants’ words intact.
We guide data cleaning, coding, method selection, analysis and interpretation using SPSS, Stata, R, Excel and NVivo, or suitable manual techniques. Researchers learn to explain assumptions, statistical tests, qualitative coding and limitations, and to write their own interpretations. Where technical analysis is permitted, procedures and outputs are documented and assistance is acknowledged as required. Participant data and findings are never fabricated or altered to obtain preferred results.
We guide the preparation of accurate charts, graphs, tables, infographics and dashboards for research and institutional reporting. Visuals must represent the underlying data faithfully, identify their sources and distinguish observed findings from illustrative examples.
